It’s the 19th Commentary in our countdown to 25 years of Power Rangers! This time out, we watch “Day Off” from Power Rangers Samurai. The Rangers take on a monster that they cannot hit with their swords, and it is up to Jayden to master a new power in order to defeat it. Also, Bulk eats cotton candy, and Spike is really good a whack-a-mole.
In our 18th commentary counting down to the 25th Anniversary of Power Rangers, we go to the alternate future of Power Rangers: RPM. In this episode, the evil Venjix is about to launch a doomsday weapon that our heroes will have no way to stop. Can the Rangers destroy the launch facility before the launch, while also rescuing the innocents inside, including Ranger Black’s sister? Actually, in this series, there are no guarantees.
For the 17th commentary counting down to the 25th anniversary of Power Rangers, we look at an episode from Power Rangers Jungle Fury entitled “Can’t Win Them All.” When Theo, the blue ranger, receives his first defeat (as unlikely as it seems), he loses all of his confidence in himself and his abilities. Can RJ help him get his confidence back in time to help Casey and Lily save the city?
In our 16th commentary counting down to the 25 years of Power Rangers, we look at “Once a Ranger,” a 2 part special that celebrated the 15th Anniversary during Power Rangers: Operation Overdrive. The son of Lord Zedd and Rita Repulsa has united all of the Operation Overdrive villians, and with their help, has severed the Rangers’ connection to the Morphin Grid. Will even the return of 5 veteran Rangers be enough to save the day? Do I even have to ask?
With the passing of Steve Ditko on June 29, 2018, I could not let the passing of such a comics legend go by without honoring him in some way. In this episode, we look at the origin of Ted Kord, a Silver Age reinvention of the Blue Beetle character from the mind of Steve Ditko.
Power Rangers Mystic Force is the subject of our 15th commentary counting down to 25 years of Power Rangers, specifically the episode “Soul Specter.” While 4 Rangers try to stop a pair of monsters from sealing people’s life force, Solaris Knight must battle Koragg to save Chip (the yellow Ranger) from a Soul Specter.
Our 14th commentary counting down to the 25th Anniversary of Power Rangers takes us to the distant future of 2025, where aliens and humans live on earth together, and the galaxy is protected by Space Patrol Delta. In “Perspective,” the Rangers manage to stop a thief, but cannot agree on exactly how they managed to accomplish the task.
In the 13th commentary counting down to the 25th Anniversary of Power Rangers, we see the return to a dinosaur theme, and the return of Tommy, in Power Rangers Dino Thunder! In the episode, “Drawn into Danger,” 4 of the 5 Rangers end up trapped inside a comic book, and only the White Ranger can save them!
It had to happen eventually. We have reached the end of the 80s. In this episode, we finish things off with the introduction of a new network, and by witnessing the debut of such shows as Perfect Strangers, Married…with Children, The Wonder Years, and Full House. Join me for one last jaunt down memory lane…until the 90s that is. Bwahahaha!
