Wow! This seems, to me, to be a very “Cary Bates” story, with weird and not completely explained happenings, and obscure character Cory Renwald showing up in a strange story with little good explanation other than “plot”, and some plot threads not really followed up, like Cory’s head wound that he hadn’t recovered from, and how Cory could prove his actual innocence. The best parts of this one were small things, like Perry’s marital issues, and the hint that Vartox is coming. You seemed to suggest that Paul Kupperberg smoothed over some of Bates’ weaknesses here, but it just didn’t seem that way to me.
